What is Reiki?
Reiki is a traditional Japanese form of energetic healing that dates back to about 100 years. The word “Reiki” literally means, universal life force energy. It is said that in the early 1920’s, Japanese monk Mikao Usui spent 21 days in deep meditation on the sacred Mount Kurama, and upon reaching enlightenment, he was shown the universal hand healing symbols and thus resulted in the beautiful healing system known as Reiki. This system has spread to the whole world with about 150 recorded different styles as well as spawning thousands of Reiki Master Practitioners, including myself. 😊
Reiki healing has physical, spiritual and emotional benefits attached to it. We as practitioners understand that every sentient being on this planet holds energy. We all have within us an infinite energy source located at our hara, or our solar plexus; the central point on our physical bodies. This infinite energy is connected to the Divine and is on a constant flow. When people experience traumas and are unable to move past those difficult situations, sometimes the body can store those emotions in the different portals of the body, otherwise known as the chakras.
Reiki helps to uproot those blockages (if the recipient is ready) so that healing, forgiveness and restoration can take place. This is sort of like removing large heavy stones that are blocking your river of energy. During healing sessions, I channel the Reiki energy and administer it (with intention) to the places in your body that need it the most. I am able to determine and locate the blockages during an initial energetic body scan. This is done at the top of the session. Ultimately, the energy will know where to go- ah the divine intelligence of Reiki! Many recipients during these sessions will feel waves of energy throughout their bodies, heat, tingling and sometimes an ethereal pulling in certain areas. It all depends on the person. Do not worry about these sensations as it is a good sign that healing is taking place!
